2.2 Single Words - Words Using, GHT, UGH, UGHT

Theory:

There are many words that have the letter group GHT, UGH, and UGHT, and the group UGH has two possible sounds. an F sound or it's silent:

LAUGH sounds like LAAF -> UGH is F.

THOUGH sounds like THO -> UGH is silent.


When there is a T after the UGH, and the GHT groups are nearly always silent:

THOUGHT, BOUGHT, BROUGHT


There are two words that end in AUGHT, which follow the same principles:

CAUGHT and TAUGHT.
