5.5 Essay - Improving the Language: The Method

Theory:

Improved language means better sentence structures, better adjectives and the use of modal verbs.

Let's start with a simple sentence:

There are many poor people in the world.

Then to change its structure by introducing a contrasting element like BUT:

There are many poor people in the world, BUT people don't seem to notice.

Let's replace BUT with a better contrasting element like DESPITE:

There are many poor people in the world, DESPITE the fact that people don't seem to notice.

The next step is to add more interesting terms:

An incredibly large percentage of the human population lives in abject poverty, and yet the vast majority of the well-to-do are oblivious to this fact.

A simple phrase like

There are ...

could be replaced by

There would seem to be ....

By using adverbs and adjectives, simple words like

many people

could be replaced by

an incredibly large percentage of the human population
