Theory:

Having a good vocabulary is a big advantage when preparing for Cambridge exams, but what does a good vocabulary mean and how do you get one.

English uses groups of words extensively, and there are many different kinds of word groups. Anyone wanting to be good at English needs to recognise these different groups, and become comfortable using them in daily conversation and any written work.

This section will be looking at the different groups that exist and will be looking at some of the elements that make up these groups.

Some of the common word groups in English are:

compound nouns

compound adjectives

collocations

preposition pairs

multi word verbs

idioms

special words
